What is Legionella?

Legionella is a genus of pathogenic gram-negative bacteria that includes the species L. pneumophil, causing legionellosis (all illnesses caused by Legionella) including a pneumonia-type illness called Legionnarires' disease and a mild flu-like illness called Pontiac fever.
